CESC has reportedly revived its plans for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power
project at Balagarh in the Hooghly district of West Bengal at a cost of about Rs
3,200 crore.
The power plant is to have two units of 660 MW each. The company is already
in possession of 800 acre at Balagarh. It is likely to approach the Union
Ministry of Coal for coal linkages. Post-clearance, the project is to be
completed by 2013-14.
The company also has projects in Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand in the offing.
Over the next four years, CESC intends to spend between 18,000-20,000 crore in
the power sector.
