Cleantech firm Attero, India's largest lithium-ion battery recycler, has entered into a partnership with National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), an autonomous body under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), to promote solar panel recycling in India.
The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at tackling the escalating challenge of solar panel waste as the country continues its aggressive push toward renewable energy. NISE will contribute technical expertise, knowledge, and insights into the current solar infrastructure to support Attero’s research and development initiatives in solar panel recycling.
As part of the agreement, a pilot project will be undertaken using end-of-life solar panels provided by NISE to test and compare recycling technologies developed by both institutions.
In a significant step toward institutionalising the recycling process, the partners are also considering the establishment of a specialised test and research facility on the NISE campus. This centre would serve to support innovations in the recycling of both lithium-ion batteries and solar panels.
