The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has opened its wastewater treatment plants to start-ups working on advanced water recycling technologies, fostering innovation under the Brand Bengaluru initiative.
This move aims to accelerate research and bolster circular water practices in the city. "By allowing start-ups to operate inside functioning treatment plants, the board aims to accelerate research, strengthen circular water practices, and expand the city’s recycled water capacity," said V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman of BWSSB. The first project, led by Boson Whitewater, will install advanced purification systems at the Kadubeesanahalli Wastewater Treatment Plant, at its own cost.
The initiative provides raw wastewater and links treated water output to potential buyers, placing no financial burden on BWSSB. The pilot is expected to produce 70,000 liters of high-quality treated water daily, advancing Bengaluru’s goal of sustainable and decentralized water reuse.
