Coal India (CIL) has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IRCON International (IRL) to jointly develop railway infrastructure to improve coal transportation for the company and its subsidiaries.
This marks CIL’s second such agreement, following an earlier MoU with Konkan Railways in August 2025. The move aligns with the Indian government’s push for efficient coal evacuation, highlighted in a recent meeting where the Ministry of Coal urged swift progress on key rail projects in Chhattisgarh, including the Gevra-Pendra Road and Kharsia-Dharmajaigarh lines.
Coal India, responsible for 76 percent of India’s coal production until August this year, heavily relies on railways for freight movement. The collaboration with IRCON aims to strengthen logistics, reduce delays, and support the growing demand for coal transport.
