Kolkata’s Metro network is set to undergo significant expansion in 2026, with key projects accelerating to improve citywide connectivity.
The Orange Line, which will connect New Garia to the airport, is the most critical project slated for completion this year. The 29.87 km route will provide a seamless interchange with the Blue Line at Kavi Subhash and eventually connect with the Green and Yellow lines. Commuters will be able to travel from Kavi Subhash to the airport in around 56 minutes, with 24 stations along the route.
The Yellow Line extension from Noapara to New Barrackpore is also targeted for completion in August 2026, though the stretch to Barasat is delayed due to land acquisition issues. Kavi Subhash station, previously delayed due to structural problems, is expected to be fully reconstructed by mid-2026. Progress on the Purple Line is also advancing, with the underground tunneling phase expected to be crucial in 2026.
