Amazon India will open five new fulfilment centres across India to ensure faster product delivery to its users.
Amazon Seller Services India plans to open these centres in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru near Gurgaon. The fulfilment centre in Chennai is already operational and the remaining four will become operational by next month.
The US-based retailer already has two fulfilment centres in Mumbai and Bangalore. With the addition of these five centres, Amazon's total storage capacity will almost double to over half a million sq feet.
Other e-commerce players in the Indian market, like Flipkart and Snapdeal, have also recently opened such centres to ensure delivery.
Flipkart has four fulfilment centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. It also has plans to open more such centres as it aims to expand its seller base to 12,000 covering 30 cities.
On the other hand, Snapdeal has 40 fulfilment centres across 15 cities. The firm plans to further increase its reach to 30 cities to facilitate its 30,000 seller base reach to about over 25 million members.
