Three highway projects worth Rs 9,500 crore in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, including those connecting Varanasi, have been given a nod by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 7 April.
The strengthening and widening of a total of 455 km of National Highways has been approved by the CCEA.
Four-laning of Sultanpur-Varanasi section of National Highway-56 in Uttar Pradesh which is worth around Rs 3,800 crore has been approved by the CCEA.
The second project is four-laning of the Varanasi to Ghazipur, Gorakhpur and further to Nepal section of NH-29 in Uttar Pradesh. The 200 km road project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 4,400 crore.
The third project relates to four laning/two laning of the Madurai-Ramanathapuram section of NH-49 in Tamil Nadu. This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-III. The total length is of 115 km, with a capital cost of about Rs 1,400 crore.The project is expected to be completed in two and half years from the date of award.
