L&T clinches eight orders
worth Rs 3,528 crore in March

 

In March 2012, L&T became the major highlight of the month as it struck deals for eight domestic and overseas contracts worth Rs 3,698 crore. The company accounted for 24 per cent share in the cumulative value of orders bagged during the month. The company has bagged contracts across Power Distribution sector, Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution, and Iron & Steel sector.

In the Power Distribution sector, the company secured six contracts worth Rs 1,419 crore. These contracts include the one worth Rs 701 crore from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the construction of 148 km, 400kV DC (Quad) transmission line from Pugalur to Pandiankuppam in the state. It has bagged another contract worth Rs 579 crore in Tamil Nadu for providing combine water supply scheme of 20 town panchayats, 1,345 rural habitations in Salem district, 11 municipalities, five town panchayats and 944 rural habitations to Attur-Narsingpuram municipalities and the Vellore Corporation in state. Further, in the Iron & Steel sector, L&T Metallurgical & Material Handling, part of L&T Construction has secured a contract worth Rs 1,700 crore from Tata Power for executing a slew of projects like blast furnace, sinter plant, coke oven, balance of plant for steel melt shop, hot strip mill, utilities and construction works for other areas for new six million tpa steel plant at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district in Orissa. In the overseas segment, it has bagged a contract worth Rs 548 crore from Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority for construction of 220 kV overhead lines, switching stations and other related electrical works in Abu Dhabi.

 

The month witnessed awarding of 54 contracts worth Rs 14,691 crore in domestic as well as overseas segments. Among these, seven overseas contracts worth Rs 2,424 crore were awarded to various entities including Jaiprakash Associates, L&T Oman LLC, Punj Lloyd, Tantia Constructions etc. Jaiprakash Associates secured two contracts in the Hydel based power sector from Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority, Royal Government of Bhutan, for 720 MW Mangdechhu hydel power project located in Trongsa district of Bhutan. The contract worth Rs 597 crore was for construction of diversion tunnel, dam, spillway & coffer dams, intake structure, intake tunnels, branch Head Race Tunnel (HRT), SFT, branch SFT, adit to desilting chambers, adit to GOC of direct current (DC), GOC of DC, adit to GOC of SFT, GOC of SFT, Vertical Shaft and two desilting chambers. Another contract worth Rs 316 crore was for construction of surge shaft, two pressure shafts, bifurcation pressure shaft & intermediate adits, main access tunnel to power house including portal, approach adits to transformer cavern, approach adits to pressure shafts bottom, construction adits to power house & transformer cavern crown including portals & plugs, cable cum ventilation tunnel, underground power house & transformer caverns including bus duct, pothead yard, Tail Race Tunnel (TRT), branch tunnel & outlet portals for TRT. The other overseas contracts are secured in Nepal, Singapore, Oman, UAE and Indonesia in various segments.

Among the sectors, the Roadways sector was at the top during the month with 14 contracts worth Rs 6,395 crore. Sadbhav Engineering has bagged three road projects worth Rs 2,627 crore. The company has bagged Rs 1,280 crore four laning of Gomati ka Chauraha - Udaipur section of NH- 8 (from Km 177/000 to Km 260/100) in Rajasthan under NHDP Phase IV and Rs 1,220 contract for four laning of Solapur- Bijapur section of NH-13 from Km 0.00 to Km 110.542 under NHDP Phase III. Both projects have been awarded by the NHAI.

 

The Roadways sector saw fall in the award of orders in terms of value by 28 per cent in April 2012 as compared to the previous month. In March 2012, the sector had bagged a total of 11 orders worth Rs 8,212 crore.
