Asian Development Bank (ADB) is soon to release another tranche of loan worth
$59.1 million (approx Rs 265.95 crore) to Himachal Pradesh under the Himachal
Pradesh Clean Energy Development Investment Programme. The Union Government
signed an agreement with the ADB in this regard on 12 March 2010.
The funds are to be utilised for the construction of four hydropower
generating plants. The projects being financed are
Sawara-Kuddu (111 MW) in Shimla district,
Kashang (195 MW) and
Shongtong-Karchham (402 MW) in Kinnaur district and
Sainj (100 MW) in Kullu district.
These projects are estimated to cost $ 1.5 billion (approx Rs 6,750 crore).
According to sources, construction work on all the projects has commenced and
these are likely to be executed by early 2015.
