power grid AP Genco's Upper Sileru pumped storage project has secured preliminary environmental clearance from the Central government, paving the way for its Rs 13,000 crore development.
With a total installed capacity of 1,350 MW, the project will play a pivotal role in enhancing Andhra Pradesh's energy infrastructure. The nine-unit facility, each with 150 MW capacity, aims to improve grid stability by storing surplus energy during off-peak hours and releasing it during peak demand. The project, which has already received technical clearance from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), is expected to advance the state's renewable energy integration. After fulfilling forest clearance conditions, AP Genco is now finalising documents for full environmental approval.
The initiative highlights AP Genco’s commitment to sustainable energy and ensuring reliable power for the future. The project is slated to begin construction soon, with the goal of meeting growing peak demand across the state.
