Andhra Pradesh is set to launch a significant shipbuilding and repair facility in Machilipatnam, aiming to unlock the state’s maritime potential.
The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) basis, ensuring private sector efficiency while maintaining public oversight. Special Chief Secretary MT Krishna Babu stated that the initiative is expected to attract experienced global and domestic players with strong technical and financial capabilities. The groundwork for the project is already in place, with the Tender Evaluation Committee and EPC approving the draft RFP for the facility.
Machilipatnam MP V Balashowry welcomed the move, emphasising its potential to transform the region's economic profile. “A shipbuilding and repair facility will not only generate thousands of jobs but also create opportunities for ancillary industries and skill development,” he said. The development is seen as a key element in the state’s broader vision of sustainable, investor-led port and industrial growth.
