The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to develop a 500-acre Medical Devices Manufacturing Zone 2.0 in Visakhapatnam (Vizag).
This new initiative aims to expand the state’s medtech production capabilities and attract both global and domestic medical device manufacturers. Building on the success of the existing Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), the proposed zone will focus on producing high-value medical equipment like advanced diagnostics, imaging technologies, and essential consumables.
Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology and Industries, stated, “By offering dedicated infrastructure and a strong manufacturing ecosystem, the Medical Devices Manufacturing Zone 2.0 will enhance India’s self-reliance in high-end healthcare technologies and attract global manufacturers to invest in Vizag.” The zone is expected to boost exports, support R&D, create jobs, and reduce India’s reliance on imports, aligning with the government’s Make in India initiative.
