Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), part of Vedanta Aluminium, has expanded its production capacity by 0.5 million tonne, to reach a total capacity of one million tonne per annum (MTPA). 

This milestone places BALCO among the world’s leading aluminium producers and accounts for over 20 percent of India’s total aluminium output. The company commissioned the nation’s largest 525 kA smelter and a new 0.435 MTPA potline under its ongoing one MTPA expansion project. BALCO’s growth aims to support critical sectors such as defence, aerospace, automotive, construction, and power transmission by providing domestically produced, high-quality aluminium.

The expansion is expected to boost employment, investments, and economic growth in Chhattisgarh. Additionally, BALCO has upgraded its rolled product facility and wire rod line, broadening its value-added product offerings. With BALCO’s capacity increase, Vedanta Aluminium’s total capacity rises to 2.8 MTPA, making it the world’s largest aluminium producer and a driver of India’s industrial self-reliance.
