BC Jindal Group has announced plans to set up a greenfield downstream steel manufacturing facility in Odisha with a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore.
The project, to be executed by its wholly-owned subsidiary Jindal India Steel Tech (JISTL), will be developed in three phases by 2030, beginning with an initial Rs 2,500- crore outlay. The facility will focus on producing special coated steel products through advanced units such as a cold rolling mill (CRM), continuous galvanising line (CGL) and colour coating line (CCL). The first phase aims for an annual capacity of 9.6 lakh tonne by 2027.
Over time, the Odisha plant’s flat product division is expected to scale up to 30 lakh tonne per annum, supplemented by a two lakh tonne per annum steel pipe manufacturing unit. Currently, Jindal (India) operates two facilities in West Bengal with colour coating, galvanising and galvalume capabilities. Between FY24–FY25, the company invested Rs 1,500 crore to expand capacity, with project completion slated for FY26.
In FY25, the firm also boosted its metal beam crash barrier (MBCB) capacity by 75 per cent to 6,000 tonne, securing Rs 300-crore order from NHAI and Indian Railways.
