BHEL has received a contract for a 720 MW hydel power project in Bhutan.
BHEL has secured a contract for the electro-mechanical equipment package for a 720 MW (4x170 MW) Mangdechhu Hydroelectric project in Bhutan. The scope of order envisages, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the electro-mechanical equipment for the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric project. The order has been placed by Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (MHPA), Bhutan. The value of the contract is Nu 5.9 billion (approx Rs 594 crore) plus balance of plant on cost plus basis, with which, the total contract value will be in the range of Rs 730 to Rs 750 crore. For the contract, four turbines and generators of 170 MW each and associated equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Bhopal facility while the control system will be manufactured and supplied by the company’s Electronic Division at Bangalore.
Meanwhile, MHPA has awarded another contract worth Nu 5.5 billion (approx Rs 550 crore) to Kalptaru Power Transmission Line (KPTL). KPTL will construct the 400 kV double corridor transmission lines between Mangdechu porthead yard and Jigmeling in Gelephu, which is about 85 km.
The project is being set up under a bilateral agreement between the Indian Government and the Royal Government of Bhutan.
