The Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) is planning to shift its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility out of Mumbai to the nearby Rasayani in Maharashtra.
As part of BPCL’s long term and safety plans, the LPG facility in the Mumbai refinery complex will be shifted to Rasayani which is near Uran.
The company is also planning to set up a Rs 40,000 crore petrochemicals plant at Rasayani to manufacture polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene.
The LPG facility will be completely shifted in three months for which it has already got the environmental clearance (EC). Within 24 months, the entire LPG facility will be out from Mumbai refinery. This will help cut down truck movement near the refinery by as much as 43 percent.
The company is also planning similar options for its other refineries in Kochi, and its joint venture refineries at Numaligarh in Assam and Bina in Madhya Pradesh as well.
BPCL has already taken 250 acre and the entire plan will involve taking in an additional 500 acre for the project.
