Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (BRPL),
a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation, has planned to invest Rs.800 crore,
mainly to install a new diesel hydrotreater (DHDT.)
The DHDT would be used to help BRPL's petrol and
diesel comply with BS-III norms that would come into effect from 2010. The
project also involves motor spirit maximization and quality upgradation, besides
some minor revamps.
Major portion of investment for these two
projects will be from internal resources generation. The Board of Directors has
already approved the "implementation methodology" of the project.
Background: BRPL processes Ravva Crude as well as
Assam Crude. The diesel produced at BRPL from Ravva Crude meets BS-II
specification, which has come into effect from 1 April 2005. The diesel produced
from Assam Crude does not meet BS-II specification and is therefore further
processed in the DHDT units of Guwahati & Barauni Refinery of IOCL.
