Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has planned
to add 60 million GSM cellular lines during 2006-07, at an estimated investment
of Rs.20,000 crore.
BSNL is in the process of rolling out
15 million GSM lines during the current year. Tenders have already been floated
for four million lines in the southern, eastern and northern regions and three
million lines in the western region. The tender has been floated with the
participation of technology providers like Nokia (Northern India), Nortel (South
and East) and Alcatel (West).
The PSU telecom provider has planned
to enhance the above tender by 7.5 million lines taking the total addition
during the current year to 22.5 million lines.
By the end of 2006-07, BSNL's addition
of GSM lines will stand at 82.5 million.
