HPCL- Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) has reportedly doubled the carriage capacity
of its Sri Guru Gobind Singh Oil Refinery at Bathinda in Punjab from the
initially envisaged 9,000 to 18,000 million tpa of crude oil.
According to sources, around 40 per cent of the work on the refinery had
already been completed and the project is likely to go into production by 2011.
In addition to Rs 18,900 crore initial outlay of the refinery, around Rs
5,000 crore were being spent on the Gujarat-Bathinda pipeline and another Rs
1,000 crore on an off-shore port for importing crude oil from Iraq, Iran and
Saudi Arabia.
