Britannia Industries, a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) major, has launched its largest greenfield manufacturing facility in Guwahati, Assam, at an investment of Rs 1.7 billion.
The state-of-the-art plant is spread over 22 acre of land and has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tonne. The unit will be adding manufacturing lines of new product categories in the snacking space.
This is the third Britannia plant to be set up in Assam to serve the growing biscuit market in the North-East.
It is also planning to invest in a finished goods distribution centre at an investment of Rs 200 million in the state, which will also cater to the entire North-Eastern market.
To strengthen its global footprint, the company had in May 2018 launched its first export-oriented manufacturing facility at Mundra.
The company is also coming up with Rs 10 billion integrated food park in Ranjangaon near Pune which is likely to become operational by August 2018.
The first line of the plant will start producing cakes, followed by biscuits, croissants and dairy products.
