The Government of India is advancing large-scale hydropower and renewable energy projects in Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen power infrastructure and expand clean energy capacity,
Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik informed the Rajya Sabha. NHPC is implementing four major hydropower projects in the Union Territory through joint ventures with the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation, with a combined capacity of 3,014 MW. These include the Ratle, Pakal Dul, Kiru and Kwar projects in Kishtwar district, scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2028.
Additional projects with a planned capacity of 2,356 MW are also in the pipeline. Highlighting renewable initiatives, Minister Naik said rooftop solar adoption is rising under PM Surya Ghar, while thousands of solar pumps have been installed under PM-KUSUM. “These initiatives reflect the Centre’s strong commitment to clean and reliable power for J&K,” he said.
