The Union Ministry of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has instructed both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana not to proceed with certain projects as detailed project reports (DPRs) have not been submitted to the Centre.
The Ministry has objected to six irrigation projects, including the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme which Telangana has undertaken on Godavari River.
The Ministry has expressed objections to the Andhra Pradesh government's administrative sanction to draw and utilise six to eight TMC of water per day from the Srisailam reservoir on Krishna River.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has recently issued tender notice for taking up the Rayalaseema Lift Scheme and other related works.
Under the circumstances, the government of Andhra Pradesh should not proceed with these projects, including calling and awarding tenders as objected by the government of Telangana, without submitting the DPRs to the Krishna River Management Board for appraisal and without sanction of the Apex Council.
Similarly, the government of Telangana should not proceed with the above projects objected by government of Andhra Pradesh, without submitting the DPRs to the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) for appraisal and without sanction of the Apex Council.
The Apex Council, headed by the Union Water Resources Minister, has Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as members.
