The Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Uttar Pradesh has announced the construction of seven new drainage projects in the state for the financial year 2025-26.
These projects, aimed at enhancing irrigation and water management, will be implemented in Bahraich, Bijnor, Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut, with a total cost of Rs 74.3 crore. One drainage project will be built in Gonda, Hapur, and Meerut, while two projects each will be developed in Bijnor and Bahraich. The new drains are expected to alleviate waterlogging issues and support irrigation in agricultural areas. Alongside these new projects, the department is also undertaking large-scale cleaning of existing drains.
The target is to clean 17,500 km of drains by March 2026, with 11,065 km already completed. The improvements in drainage will help maintain water flow to fields and reduce flood-related problems in low-lying rural regions.
