US retail giant Costco Wholesale Corp is set to establish its first global capability centre (GCC) in India, choosing Hyderabad as the location. The centre will handle technology, research, and daily operations alongside global teams.
In its first phase, the facility is expected to create employment opportunities for 1,000 people , with plans to scale up in the future. The GCC model has evolved from being a low-cost outsourcing hub to playing a strategic role in supporting global firms in areas like finance, operations, and research and development.
India already hosts GCCs of several multinational corporations, including JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, Target in Bengaluru, and McDonald’s, Heineken, and Vanguard Group in Hyderabad. According to a joint report by Nasscom and consulting firm Zinnov, India’s GCC market is projected to grow from $64.6 billion in fiscal 2024 to between $99 billion and $105 billion by 2030.
The move aligns with the company’s global digital expansion and positions India as a significant hub for its tech-driven initiatives.
