The country’s first olive refinery in Rajasthan was inaugurated by the state chief minister, on 3 October, 2014.
It has been set up with a total cost of Rs 3.75 crore in Lunkaransar area and becomes the only state to set up such a refinery in India. 282 ha of land in districts like Bikaner, Nagaur, Jhunjhunu and others have olive plantations. The government envisages to increase the area to 5,000 ha in the next few years. It will definitely augment the total capacity.
In 2007, the government had commenced the olive cultivation project. It took aid from Israel and planted 1.12 lakh saplings in seven agro-climatic zones.
The olive oil produced in the refinery will be marketed under the brand name ‘Raj Olive Oil’ after some time.
