The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has accorded environmental clearance (EC) for the Indian Oil Corporation’s expansion/ modernisation of refinery located at Vadodara district of Gujarat.
The capacity will be expanded from 13.7 million tpa to 18 million tpa over an additional area spread across 3,24,000 sq mtr. The refinery spreads across 37,43,000 sq mtr. The recurring cost which includes operation and maintenance will be around Rs 268 lakh per annum.
Some of the products which will be expanded include LPG with a capacity of 529 tpa, polypropylene with a capacity of 402 tpa, and sulphur with a capacity of 49.3 million tpa
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 22,210 crore with a total employment generation of 125 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs after expansion.
The power requirement of the project is 2,52,800 kVA to be met from the existing captive power plants and grid power infrastructure.
The project was accorded terms of reference (ToR) on 14 April 2018 followed by amendment in ToR dated 1 April 2019 and 4 December 2019.
