Eisai Pharmatechnology and Manufacturing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo based Eisai Company, has opened its manufacturing facility for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in the Pharma City SEZ at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The new facility has come up on 50 acre at Eisai Knowledge Centre India in the Pharma City SEZ in Visakhapatnam. The Rs 250 crore facility under Phase I is likely to be a global manufacturing hub of APIs for Eisai. It has a production capacity to manufacture 30 tonne of formulations and two billion tablets per annum. The validation batches of APIs are expected to be manufactured by September 2010.

This apart, the company is working on Phase II expansion of the facility wherein the company is likely to invest $50 million (approx Rs 232.5 crore).

The company is likely to shift production of four key APIs and two formulations to India from Eisai's plant in Kawashima, Japan.
