Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, on 2 March 2010 laid the
foundation stone of the 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) super thermal power plant.
The Rs 8,000 crore project being built by L&T is located at Nalash village
near Rajpura. The plant has been given coal linkage by South Eastern Coalfields
which have coal fields in Korba-Raigarh region of Chhattisgarh.
L&T has already signed the PPA with Punjab State Electricity Board and it
will supply power at Rs 2.89 per unit from this project. Unit I of the plant is
expected to be commissioned by January 2012.
