Vice President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, M Venkaiah Naidu, laid the foundation stone for a housing complex for Rajya Sabha employees. To address the housing shortage for the employees of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, 40 dwelling units will be constructed in Sector 12, R K Puram, Delhi.
The project will see an investment of Rs 46 crore. The 8,700 sq mtr land in R K Puram was allotted for the project as early as in 2003.
The housing demand of the employees of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat is being met only to the extent of 38 percent as against the housing demand satisfaction of 67 percent in case of the Central Government Employees in Delhi.
The housing shortage in respect of Type-III and Type-IV quarters for the employees of the Secretariat is of the order of 72 percent. A total of 32 Type-III and 28 Type-IV quarters will be built in Phase-I of the housing complex at R K Puram over an area of 4,024 sq mtr. For the 1,400 officers and staff of the Secretariat, only 536 housing units are available at present.
NBCC has indicated a three-year period for completion of the housing complex; however, efforts will be made to complete the project earlier.
Moreover, the remaining piece of land would also be made available for taking up Phase-II of the housing complex for the Rajya Sabha Secretariat employees.
