Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is set to begin crude processing at its 1,80,000 barrels per day (bpd) Barmer refinery in Rajasthan by the end of January 2026.
This marks a significant expansion in HPCL's refining capabilities, making it the second-largest state-run refiner in India. With the commissioning of this refinery, HPCL will surpass Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), which operates refineries with a total capacity of 7,06,000 bpd. HPCL currently operates a 1,90,000 bpd refinery in Mumbai and a 3,00,000 bpd facility in Vizag, alongside a 48.99 percent stake in HPCL-Mittal Energy, which runs a 2,26,000 bpd refinery in Bathinda.
HPCL has received crude shipments from various international sources, including Azerbaijan, Libya, Angola, and Nigeria, in preparation for the refinery's operations. This new refinery will further strengthen HPCL's position in the domestic and international oil markets.
