The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) has sanctioned a loan of Rs 11,000 crore to accelerate the construction of Andhra Pradesh's capital city, Amaravati. This decision, announced by Minister Narayana after a HUDCO board meeting in Mumbai, aims to expedite key infrastructure projects such as the Secretariat, Assembly, and High Court.
Minister Narayana mentioned that the loan will significantly boost ongoing efforts in the capital, with construction work progressing under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The CRDA is set to launch large-scale projects, including the appointment of project management consultants (PMCs) responsible for overseeing construction activities, preparing cost estimates, and ensuring timely completion. Negotiations for this loan began last October, following a meeting between Minister Narayana and HUDCO CMD Sanjay Kulshreshtha.
As part of the infrastructure push, tenders for the Secretariat towers, High Court, and Assembly buildings worth Rs 11,000 crore are being finalised. Notably, the raft foundation for the Secretariat towers, which had been submerged for over five years, has now been exposed and assessed for structural integrity. Work on the remaining towers is progressing, with over 16 lakh cubic mtrs. of water removed from the sites at a cost of Rs 88 lakh.
Additionally, the Central government has provided support for Amaravati's development through the Union Budget.
