Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the establishment of six new milk processing and chilling plants across the state to enhance dairy production and rural livelihoods.
Chairing a meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department on 19 June, 2025, he emphasised forming more dairy cooperative societies to generate employment and self-employment opportunities for youth in the dairy sector. Currently, 910 panchayats have operational dairy cooperatives, and the state aims to expand their reach.
Reviewing progress on the Dagwar Milk Processing Plant in Kangra district, CM Sukhu directed the formation of a monitoring committee to expedite its completion.
The plant, with a capacity of 1.50 lakh litres per day and built at a cost of Rs 225 crore, is expected to be operational by June 2026. It will benefit farmers in Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, and Chamba. The Chief Minister mentioned that MILKFED's milk procurement has grown by 17 percent over the past three years.
