Hindalco Industries' Utkal alumina project at Kashipur in Rayagada district of Orissa, is likely to commence production from December 2012.
Around 85 per cent work on the 1.5-million tpa alumina refinery plant has been completed so far. Construction work is expected to be completed in another six months. The company is investing Rs 7,500 crore for the project. Several contractors including L&T and Gannon Dunkerley have been engaged for the construction. The project has already got clearance for mining of 8.5 million tonne of bauxite at Baphilimali and Podingamali in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts respectively. The plant is expected to begin its trial production in November 2012.
