J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu, recently inaugurated a number of projects of the Highways and Minor Ports Department in the state, through video-conferencing.
Projects worth Rs 188.56 crore were inaugurated. These included 21 new bridges, three new rail overbridges, five foot overbridges, a bypass road and seven office buildings.
A rail overbridge at Pattaravakkam in Thiruvallur district, estimated to cost Rs 36.07 crore, was inaugurated.
In the road section, Tamil Nadu CM inaugurated a Rs 12 crore new bypass for Erode, two new bridges each in Thanjavur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts, and one new bridge each in Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Erode, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Theni, Tirunelveli and Tiruppur districts. The total cost of these bridges is estimated at Rs 140.49 crore.
Apart from this, eight new buildings built at a cost of Rs 2.47 crore, for the Highways Department, were inaugurated. Out of eight, three of these buildings have been constructed in Madurai district, two in Karur district and the other three in Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam and Kanyakumari districts.
