Indian Railways has allocated Rs 1,200 crore to upgrade five key railway stations in Nashik ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, towards enhancing passenger infrastructure for the event and creating long-term benefits.
The upgrades include new foot over bridges, wider and longer platforms, additional loop lines, automatic signalling systems, new pitlines, and network remodelling to ensure seamless operations. Divisional Railway Manager Punit Agrawal highlighted that while some infrastructure will be temporary to handle the influx of pilgrims, much of it will be permanent and will help improve the stations' capabilities long after the event. "A large part of the infrastructure being created is here to stay," Manager Agrawal said.
Special trains from Bhusawal will terminate at Odha, Kasbe-Sukene, and Kherwadi stations, while trains from Mumbai will end at Devlali station. The infrastructure is being built on a war footing to ensure readiness before the event.
