Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) has reportedly been shortlisted for Tavan
Tolgoi coal mining project in Mongolia.
JSPL is likely to habe a 49 per cent stake in Tavan Tolgoi, while the balance
51 per cent stake will be held by a government-owned company in Mongolia.
Tavan Tolgoi has six billion tonne of coal reserve, of which two billion is
coking. In case the deal gets through, JSPL is likely to transport the coking
coal to cater to JSPL's steel plants in India.
JSPL operates a three-million tonne plant at Chhattisgarh and has lined up
two six-million-tonne plants in Orissa and Jharkhand, for which MoUs have been
signed. It is laso planning to add another three million tonne at Chhattisgarh
plant.
