Juniper Green Energy has fully commissioned its 100 MWh merchant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking the company's first operational merchant BESS.
This project, developed through its subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic, is one of the largest operating BESS facilities in India. Trial operations have been completed, and it has received approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC). Commercial operations for the entire 100 MWh capacity began on 23 January, 2026. CEO Ankush Malik said, “This milestone unlocks new revenue streams while bolstering grid stability and accelerating our renewable energy mission.”
The BESS project is expected to create merchant revenue opportunities through peak power arbitrage, grid balancing services, and participation in ancillary service markets. Juniper plans to expand its storage capacity across solar project sites connected to the interstate transmission system (ISTS). Additionally, a 400 MWh BESS capacity is being installed at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan, with commissioning expected in Q1 2026.
