Juniper Green Energy has successfully commissioned 60 megawatt-hour (MWh) of its 100 MWh merchant battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, through its subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic.
This marks the company’s first operational merchant BESS, positioning it as an early mover in India’s growing energy storage market. The commissioned capacity has completed trial operations and received regulatory approval from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre, with commercial operations starting on 24 December, 2025. The remaining 40 MWh capacity is expected to be commissioned soon, after which the project will be among the largest operational BESS in India, enabling merchant revenue streams such as peak arbitrage, grid balancing, and ancillary services.
Juniper Green Energy has also installed 400 MWh of BESS at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan, expected to come online by Q1 2026, strengthening its storage portfolio. This commissioning underscores its commitment to supporting India’s energy transition and enhancing grid stability.
