Kudremukh Iron Ore Co (KIOCL) is embarking on an Rs.110 crore
modernisation project at its Mangalore pellet plant in Karnataka.
Of the proposed investment, Rs.40 crore will be used for upgradation of the
machinery and Rs.70 crore will be for handling of raw material.
The company will upgrade machinery at
its pellet plant to process inferior quality ore and extract higher iron
contents, whereas modernisation will enable it to operate the plant at its full
capacity of 3.5 million tpa and increase exports as well.
The company also plans to set up a
railway siding from its pellet plant to the nearby railway station at Tokur for
bringing raw materials. It has acquired around 53 acres from the Karnataka
Industrial Areas Development Board for laying railway siding.
