Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on 04 September, 2025 announced that Karnataka will develop the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) at Bidadi as India’s first and largest Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered city.
Spread around 9,000 acres across nine villages, the “work-live-play” township will function as the state’s second central business hub, with over 2,000 acres earmarked for AI industries. Over Rs 20,000 crore is allocated for the initiative, including Rs 2,950 crore from BMRDA and Rs 17,500 crore from financial institutions. A model rehabilitation policy under the 2013 Act will ensure annuities, housing, and skilling support for affected families.
The project, first proposed in 2006, regained momentum in 2023. Connectivity will be enhanced through a 300-mtrs. business corridor linking major highways. Deputy CM Shivakumar emphasized, quote “Lakhs of young people will benefit from new jobs and skilling centres.”
