Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has expanded its automotive design capabilities at its plant in Mumbai, as it looks to accelerate product development across its passenger and commercial vehicle segments.
The upgraded design studio, first launched in 2015, was unveiled on 07 April, 2025, and now features enhanced technologies and a workforce that has doubled to 100. The facility includes a new milling machine capable of converting digital sketches into full-scale clay models, as well as an in-house paint shop. These enhancements are expected to help Mahindra widen its SUV portfolio, streamline the development of electric vehicles, and reduce the timeline between concept and commercial launch.
The Mumbai studio complements Mahindra’s design centre in the UK, which focuses primarily on electric vehicle development. The company is also exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into its design processes to improve speed and execution quality.
“The new studio will attract the best design talent from India and become a leading automotive design centre in India. The influence of the design studio on our products will be felt for many years to come,” Chief Design and Creative Officer at M&M, Pratap Bose.
With its expanded design capabilities and growing focus on electric mobility, Mahindra is positioning itself for a more competitive edge in both domestic and global automotive markets.
