The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 2,906 crore contract with Bharat Electronics (BEL) for the procurement of the low-level transportable radar, LLTR (Ashwini).
This advanced active electronically scanned phased array radar, based on solid-state technology, can track aerial targets ranging from high-speed fighter jets to slow-moving drones and helicopters. Designed and developed indigenously by DRDO’s Electronics & Radar Development Establishment, the radar aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The contract was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. This marks the second major order for BEL within a week, following additional contracts worth Rs 577 crore for airborne electronic warfare systems, submarine communication systems, doppler weather radars, train communication systems, radar upgrades, and associated spares and services.
