The National Highways Authority of India has launched Package 7 of the Vadodara–Virar (also called Vadodara-Mumbai) section of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, thereby completing the full stretch from Vadodara to Navsari.
The newly opened section between Ena and Kharel, along with Package 5 from Ankleshwar to Kim, has begun trial operations. This development provides direct connectivity from Vadodara to Kharel, streamlining travel across Gujarat's 426 km stretch of the 1,386 km expressway. "This is a significant achievement, improving travel time between key industrial hubs like Ahmedabad and Surat," said an NHAI official.
While the entire stretch is structurally complete, some safety works are still pending. There are also challenges like a high-tension tower blocking part of Package 5, necessitating diversions. Full, uninterrupted operations are expected within the next few weeks, enhancing connectivity across Gujarat's major regions.
