Public sector mining giant NMDC recorded a strong 15 percent year-on-year growth in iron ore production for April 2025, reaching four million tonne, up from 3.48 million tonne in April 2024. The company also reported a three percent increase in iron ore sales, registering 3.63 million tonne compared to 3.53 million tonne in the same month last year.
The largest iron ore producer has been actively ramping up its output to meet growing domestic demand and align with long-term national mineral production targets. NMDC Steel (NSL), which was demerged from NMDC, also saw significant operational growth. In April, NSL’s hot metal production rose to 2,30,111 tonne, marking an 8.5 percent month-on-month increase from March’s output of 2,11,978 tonne. This growth reflects NSL's growing momentum as a key player in India’s steel production sector.
In FY25, NMDC achieved a cumulative production of 44.04 million tonne (MnT) and sales of 44.4 MnT, setting a new benchmark in its operational history. The company also posted its best-ever fourth-quarter sales performance, delivering 12.66 MnT. NMDC CMD Amitava Mukherjee said, "Our record-breaking April performance, coupled with best-ever despatch figures from our major iron ore mines -- Kirandul, Bacheli, and Donimalai -- with a growth of 12 per cent, 4 per cent and 88 per cent, respectively over CPLY solidifies our leadership position and sets a strong foundation for achieving our ambitious target of becoming 100 MT mining company by 2030."
