NTPC India aims to expand its installed capacity from 76 GW to 130 GW by 2032, unlocking opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). With its procurement value projected to grow from Rs 19,075 crore in FY24 to Rs 32,500 crore by 2032, MSMEs, accounting for over 52 percent of NTPC’s FY24 procurement, stand to benefit significantly. The company has shown a six-fold increase in MSME procurement over five years, rising from Rs 1,667 crore in FY20 to Rs 9,851 crore in FY24.
Concurrently, the number of MSME vendors more than doubled from 1,375 in FY20 to 3,047 in FY24. SC/ST entrepreneurs' participation increased from 23 vendors in FY20 to 74 in FY24 and procurement values rose from Rs 15 crore to Rs 25 crore. Similarly, procurement from women entrepreneurs saw a tenfold increase, from Rs six crore in FY20 to Rs 64.2 crore in FY24.
NTPC leverages the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform for its procurement strategy. The company is working towards achieving 100 percent procurement via GeM, encompassing materials, services, and works contracts. To enhance operational efficiency, NTPC established the Unified Shared Services Centre (USSC) in 2021 in Raipur, centralising procurement activities and streamlining vendor engagement.
Through these initiatives, NTPC’s capacity expansion promises significant growth for MSMEs and reinforces its role as a catalyst for inclusive economic development.
