The PFC is likely to kickstart the second (and the final) round of bidding for the 4,000 MW Bedabahal ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Orissa in April 2012.

The Ministry of Power is expected to finalise amendments in the bidding documents for the UMPP soon. The comments for carrying out amendments to the standard bidding documents (SBDs) of the UMPPs have been received by the stakeholders and the government is the final stages of framing the new documents. After this, the RFP for the Orissa UMPP can be invited.

The RFQ for the UMPP was opened in July 2011. Tata Power, Essar, Adani Group, L&T, JSW Energy, NALCO, Welspun Energy, AES India, Torrent Power, Jindal Power, GVK Energy Ventures, Lanco Hydro Power Ventures, GMR Energy, Senator Energy, Jaiprakash Power Ventures, Gujarat Paguthan Energy Corporation, CESC, Jindal Power, Sterlite Energy and Aditya Birla Power Venture also submitted their bids and cleared the first round.
