ArcelorMittal has reportedly sought approval for its proposed integrated
steel plant in Karnataka from the State High Level Clearance Committee.
According to sources, the company is planning to set up a six million tpa
steel plant in Karnataka entailing an investment of Rs 30,000 crore.
However, setting up of the proposed plant is likely to depend on a host of
techno-economic factors. More details on cost, capacity, timeline etc are likely
to be disclosed once the technical studies are completed in about three-four
months.
The proposal is in addition to the already planned projects in Jharkhand and
Orissa. The company has been facing problems in acquiring land besides
regulatory hurdles for its 12 million tpa steel plants, one each in Jharkhand
and Orissa.
