Strategic Energy Technology Systems (SETSL), a JV of Tata and South Africa's
Sasol Synfuel International, has submitted a proposal to the Orissa Government
to set up a coal-to-liquid (CTL) fuel facility in the state with an investment
of around $10 billion (approx Rs 45,000 crore).
SETSL is yet to decide the location of its proposed project which is to
require 3,000 acre of land.
The project to have a capacity of 3.6 million tpa (80,000 barrels per day) is
likely to commence production by 2018 if implemented as per planned. A 1,600 MW
power project will also come up as part of the project. The project which is to
require about 28-31 million tpa of coal, will source it from Arakhpal and
Srirampur mines of the Talcher coal belt.
