SAIL is likely to set up two state-of-the-art cryogenic air separation units
(ASUs), each with a capacity of 1,250 tpd at its Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) in
Chhattisgarh. Foundation for these ASUs was laid on 29 March 2010.
Praxair India is likely to set up these ASUs on BOT basis with completion
slated for 2012. It is likely to invest Rs 500 crore to build the facility. The
air separation plant is likely to include liquefaction equipment.
The project is a part of BSP's modernisation and expansion plan. The project
will enable supply of oxygen that is highly important for plant operations and
will also enable supply of argon and nitrogen to various existing as well as new
and upcoming production facilities at BSP.
