Niddodi ultra mega power project of Coastal Karnataka Power, at Tadadi, in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, is unlikely to be implemented due to objections by the villagers.
The Ministry of Environment & Forests has declined to accord approval for the project. The project, with 4,000 MW capacity, requires nearly 1,000 acre at Niddodi village in Moodbidri. Villagers in Niddodi, Yedapaduv, Nirude, Puttige, Kateel, Mucchuru, Padu Perar, Mudu Perar, and Thenka Yedapadavu, have raised objections to the project as it may cost them their agriculture land.
The ministry has ensured that, due to the objections from villagers, the project will be not be implemented by the central government without the state's consent.
In 2013, the state government had written to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy offering land for the project.
